Web Survey Programming and Data Collection

Burke enables Internet-based collection and dissemination of survey data by programming questionnaires and establishing a secure infrastructure for storing and reporting responses.

Online Survey Programming

Since 1996, Burke programmers have been designing Internet surveys that meet clients' needs. Robust and sophisticated HTML questionnaires can contain skip patterns, data piping and response and question rotation and randomization. Response formats can include radio buttons, direct entry boxes, or drop-down boxes. Graphic images and videos can be incorporated into surveys, which can also include complex conjoint and discrete choice exercises.

Sprint was recognized at the American Marketing Association's 2001 EXPLOR Awards, which honor exemplary performance and leadership in online research, for a CHOICES™ study programmed by Burke.

Web Survey Hosting

To safeguard clients' valuable research results, it is necessary to have a reliable Web-hosting environment. Burke has a long-standing commitment to offer clients a secure and stable infrastructure for collecting and disseminating research information via the Internet.

Burke regularly upgrades its array of data-collection and reporting servers. By dedicating servers to specific applications, Burke provides clients considerable scalability - variable bandwidth makes it possible to accommodate thousands of simultaneous users. Burke's cluster of hardware is also set up to ensure that there is redundancy and that all systems have "fail-over" capability. In addition, Burke servers are set up with "firewall" protection from hackers.

Burke houses its servers directly on the Internet backbone, and questionnaires and online reporting solutions are available to respondents and clients on a 24/7 basis. Burke's Web-hosting environment is a limited-access, temperature- and humidity-controlled facility with 24-hour security and around-the-clock server monitoring. There are four redundant DS3 connections to the Internet, an Ethernet connection with the ability to "burst" to 10 megabits per second, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) protection with unlimited backup power capabilities, fire-detection equipment, and on-site network operations center staff trained how to respond in event of a fire. Engineers are on call 24/7.

Burke technical support personnel monitor the infrastructure closely - and are paged immediately if servers experience problems of any kind. Burke's infrastructure and staff expertise allow its servers to receive more than one million "hits" a day from potential survey respondents around the globe.
